Popping candy cupcakes

There’s a great sweet shop in Covent Garden which sells all kids of American sweets. On my last visit I bought some packs of popping candy thinking they would be great as a cupcake topping!

I made some simple cupcakes using the vanilla recipe from the Hummingbird Bakery cookbook. I then made a buttercream to which I added a few drops of vanilla essence. I put a dollop of the buttercream on each cupcake and sprinkled popping candy on top. They whizzed and fizzed and looked quite pretty sparkling in the sun (obviously I made these last week before the current torrential rain).

The popping candy I used was cola flavoured but the flavour wasn’t too strong. You need to eat the cupcakes pretty quickly if you want to get the full effect of the popping candy, otherwise  it loses it’s fizz and is just a pretty decoration.

Orla Kiely fragrance

Today we had a rare trip into the West End. We took the little one on his first trip to the British Museum followed by his first trips to Cath Kidston and Orla Kiely - my two favourite shops!

I have a real passion for Orla Kiely. I drink out of Orla Kiely mugs, I sleep amongst Orla Kiely sheets, I use Orla Kiely handbags, and travel with my Orla Kiely suitcase, wash bag and make up bags! There’s only been one occasion when I rocked up at a hotel and realised I had a number of clashing Orla Kiely prints!

I was so excited to hear she was launching her own fragrance and had to take a further look! She has launched a Eau De Parfum in three different sizes, shower gel and body cream. The fragrance is delicious and my lovely husband bought me the purse spray.  The fragrance is described on her website as “a charming fragrance of light floral notes, with natural extracts of rose, geranium and bergamot, subtly balanced with fresh fig and a hint of chocolate”.

The packaging is as lovely as you would expect from Orla Kiely.

Beautiful glass bottle featuring her stem print

The fragrance has it’s own little draw string bag to keep it safe in your handbag

A lovely present from my husband and it smells divine!

Cath Kidston goodies

Yesterday I popped into the Cath Kidston shop in Covent Garden. I’d spotted some goodies in the latest catalogue that I wanted, especially the tin of travel sweets – perfect for our long drive to Cornwall tomorrow. I also picked up laundry and shoe bags and a pillowcase featuring planes which I’m hoping to make into a laundry bag for Edward. Watch this space!
