One lucky winner will also be picked from all entries in January to win a Kenwood Chef Classic KM336 food mixer. So Tweet your bakes often and always include the #NewYearBakes hash tag! For more info follow @WhitworthsSugar on Twitter.

They were kind enough to send me their entire range of baking sugars and I got to work on a lemon drizzle cake.

I like to think that because it includes lemon it must be healthy, either way it’s a lovely cake to help you through the winter blues.

Lego Friends and cake pops

I was a bit sceptical when I heard about a new Lego range for girls which was launched in December 2011 with 14 sets. I loved Lego when I was younger (and still do today!) and loved my Lego bricks and Technical Lego too. Extensive research suggested although girls enjoyed playing with Lego they found it difficult to identify with – Lego Friends was born. Each character has a distinct personality and a variety of interests ranging from invention and design to animals and performing arts.

Lego Friends is the first LEGO building experience that has been fully tailored to girls’ tastes and interests, tapping into girl’s desire for realistic role-play, creativity, and a highly detailed, character-based world with the core values of LEGO building.

Available from August 2012, the new range adds 9 new products to the existing Lego Friends range, priced from £9.99 to £89.99, including Heartlake Stables, Emma’s Horse Trailer, Summer Riding Camp, Adventure Camper, Heartlake Flying Club and Olivia’s Speedboat.

This was the first opportunity we had to see Lego Friends up close and we loved it. The detail is amazing and the toddler enjoyed pointing out little things which caught his eye and really liked the animals. I can easily imagine buying a few sets to supplement our Lego collection! The Summer Riding Camp is already hotly tipped to be one of the top 10 Christmas gifts and there was also a preview of the exciting new Lego Friends Advent Calendar!

As we were leaving we were presented with the most amazing Lego cake pop from Pop Bakery. Mine looks a bit rough around the edges because I took it home to share with my husband but it was delicious and very clever!

Orla Kiely inspired cupcake wrappers

Given my frequent mentions of the Queen of Print, Orla Kiely, it will come as no surprise I fell in love with these the moment I saw them.

Orla Kiely cupcake wrappers

Paper cupcake wrappers featuring a very Orla Kiely-esque car print. I love this design and already have some luggage and a notebook featuring it so I thought these would be fun to use.

I am the Queen of the packet mix so tried a Chocolate Muffin Mix from Tesco which I bought recently. The muffins were huge but don’t look too big in these lovely cupcake wrappers. I’ve only heard of cupcake wrappers recently but I think they’re a great way to jazz up a cupcake, these ones are waterproof, greaseproof, eco-friendly and re-useable too, so a pretty good investment at £7.95 for a pack of 12.

They came from Just Bake who are 6 months old tomorrow. They have a huge product range – I also have some lovely Thomas the Tank Engine sugarettes to try too!

To celebrate their anniversary they are offering customers a 15% discount on orders placed tomorrow (Friday 6th July). In order to get the discount, the code ‘15%OFF’ needs to be typed into the voucher code box of the payment screens. Full details can be found on the Just Bake website.
