What I’m reading: Jane Foster Creative Craft with Kids

A few weeks ago I treated myself to a copy of Jane Foster’s latest book – Creative Craft with Kids. I’m a big fan of Jane Foster’s style (she loves Miffy as much as I do!) and I really enjoyed her first book.

Creative Craft With Kids is the second book from Jane Foster and includes fun projects for parents to make with and for children to encourage creativity and experimentation. There are 15 creative projects to make with children which include felt-faced toys, customized T-shirts and a patchwork quilt. Some of the projects require some simple sewing skills, but there are also no-sew projects including covered matchboxes to hide precious trinkets in, simple printing projects, and paper bunting. With bright colours and friendly animal motifs, Jane’s fun and easy-going approach to her work shines through in each of the projects.

I plan to make quite a few of the projects in this book but the one I started with was the customised t-shirt for my 3 year old. As I dressed her this morning she was wearing customised jeans and a customised tshirt so I knew she was happy to wear things I’ve made for her.

I used a template from the book to create the retro camera, masked out the white bits of a plain tshirt with contact paper and painted on red fabric paint.

The design is really striking and looks great. In fact I love it so much I’m tempted to make a cotton bag for my husband to hold some of his camera equipment in.
