What I’m reading: Hand knit inspiration for your home

I’m on the look out for inspiration for our new home and finding plenty of it in craft books. I was recently sent a copy of Hand Knit Your home – 30 knitted projects for a modern home by Melanie Porter which is full of new ideas.

Hand Knit Your homeHand Knit Your home is a really interesting book as it presents a fresh perspective on decorating your home. The book is divided into three chapters and colour schemes – hot ideas, cool collection and pale palette. The projects are really inspired, ranging from a small flower vase cosy to a large floor pillow, from a table runner to a curtain tie. The projects are practical and functional but also fun and really enable you to put your own stamp on your home.

As well as the projects themselves, the book contains a handy techniques section where you’ll discover how to measure up furniture for a knitted cover and how to felt knitted pieces, as well as the basics of knitting which means this book is for every level of knitter.

I think this book is great for helping you put your own mark on your home. A lot of our furniture comes from that well known Swedish brand but reading the book has given me some confidence to think about transforming them, making them unique and of course fitting into our colour scheme!
