Hotel Chocolat – Jolly Santa review

Being the good-hearted blogger that I am, I put myself forward to tell you about some chocolate treats from Hotel Chocolat. They sell a huge range of milk, white and dark chocolates in all shapes and sizes. Hotel Chocolat have some great products for Christmas, including advent calendars, chocolate hampers and stocking fillers. I was sent a yummy Jolly Santa to taste and review. This is what I was expecting:

Unfortunately this is what I received:

broken Hotel Chocolat chocolate

Hmm, I think once upon a time it was a Jolly Santa but the courier must have dropped it at some point. When I opened the box the chocolate was only wrapped in a single layer of bubble wrap inside a cardboard box. The box wasn’t marked fragile or handle with care.

Despite being broken into smithereens the chocolate was very tasty. I love milk chocolate and this was 40% milk chocolate of the best quality. Although I’ve bought plenty of chocolate from Hotel Chocolat before I’ve never ordered anything online for delivery. If I received this as a Christmas present I would be very disappointed.

It’s unfortunate they state on their website “We understand that your chocolates must arrive in perfect condition, which is why we take so much care and attention when designing our packaging and delivering your gift.” I didn’t find this to be the case.

Jolly Santa is currently out of stock but is described as “A very merry, munch-able Santa cast in mellow 40% milk chocolate. Our irrepressibly jolly Santa Claus is here to spread Christmas cheer, until the real one turns up on Christmas Eve that is!” The retail price is a reasonable £6.50.

Oh, such a shame! Can you imagine ordering it online and presenting to someone without checking if everything is ok? It would be a disaster. Now I am craving for chocolate…and its not even tea-time yet! 🙂
