Summer meals

Recent research from Morrisons has shown that over the summer holidays, the average parent is predicted to be £126.95 in the red over the course of the summer holidays while eight per cent will end up between £250 – £500 in debt.

In response to this insight, Morrisons has developed a host of useful information for parents looking for low-cost ways to entertain their children over the summer holidays, including:
·         Easy to cook, low cost, nutritious M Savers summer-themed recipes, perfect for picnics, barbecues and kids’ summer snacks starting from as little as 16p per portion
·         Free or low cost family activities developed with Play England
·         An interactive map of the UK to locate free play spaces
·         An M Savers Summer ‘Pop-Up’ Play Park which will tour the country in August which will have cooking demonstrations as well as low and free play workshops hosted by Play England to teach all sorts of game ideas including arts and crafts and den building

We were sent £10 of Morrison’s vouchers so we could try some of the M Saver recipe cards for ourselves. We’re lucky to have a large Morrison’s nearby so last week off we went to hunt out some ingredients to try the M Savers recipes for ourselves. We picked up the ingredients for a delicious pork sausages with sticky soy and honey dressing sprinkled with chilli, as well as a green beans and broccoli rice salad with cashews.

Each M Savers recipe card contains a list of the ingredients needed, how to prepare the meal,  as well as a helpful guide to nutrition. It was quite easy to find the ingredients and the meals were simple but filling and suitable for us and the toddler. Best of all was the price! The pork sausages cost £1.04 (using store cupboard products too) and the green beans and broccoli dish cost £2.04. Perfect if you’re watching your pennies!
